Q&A

All cruises in Halong Bay must have permission from the Management Board of Halong Bay to stay overnight in the bay. Permission is granted or denied based on current and foretasted extreme weather conditions (high winds, monsoon, thunderstorm, cyclone, storm, etc.).

The Management Board has the authority to cancel all cruises to guarantee the safety of tourists. In the case where a planned and paid for cruise is cancelled the following policies will be applied:

  • If the cancellation of permission by the board is decided before you leave from Hanoi to Halong Bay (you have not used any service yet): 100% refund.
  • If the cancellation is decided during the trip (you have already used some services: transfer, lunch, day trip, hotel in Halong, etc.): Only the fee of these services will be charged and we will refund the remaining amount.
  • If the trip is cut down from 3 days/2 nights to 2 days/1 night, we will charge as a 2 day/1 night trip, plus any additional services you have already used. We will then refund the remaining amount.

Please note: The cancellation is announced ONLY by the Management Board of Halong Bay and often it is on a very short notice. Therefore your understanding and cooperation during any possible cancellation is highly appreciated The period from May to July is considered to be peak storm weather in Halong Bay. Many unpredictable weather conditions tend to cause more cruise cancellations on short notice during this season.

From Halong Bay, a daily tour bus (at a price of US$13 per passenger) picks up passengers for Sun World Port  at between 12.00 and 13.00 (after disembarkation from your Halong Bay cruise) and transfers directly to Tam Coc (the famous landscape where the movie Skull Island was filmed), with a rest stop halfway and an arrival in Tam Coc between 17.30 and 18.00.

Our Recommendations: You can choose to stay in a hotel or a local bungalow hidden in the lush rice fields and limestone karst mountains and get ready for the next day of exploring the beautiful landscape.

Because the driver doesn’t speak English, you should ask your cruise manager for help contacting the driver and confirming the pick-up place and time.

The bus will transfer directly to Ninh Binh city or Tam Coc (the famous landscape where the movie Skull Island was filmed) with a rest stop halfway and an arrival in Tam Coc at around 18.30.

The bus can drop you off at some hotels in Ninh Binh city or Tam Coc.

We offer a round-trip shuttle bus service (at an additional charge)  that picks up passengers from their hotels in Hanoi’s Old Quarter and takes them to the ports and vice versa.

If you are not staying in the Old Quarter area, you may need to arrange for a taxi to take you to the cruise supplier office or a designated pick-up place in the Old Quarter.
The pickup time for the shuttle bus in Hanoi’s Old Quarter to Halong Bay or Bai Tu Long Bay is from 08:30 – 08:45 AM.

The buses have a daily routine for picking up (or dropping off) passengers from hotel to hotel; you may feel a little uncomfortable sitting in the bus in a round loop before the actual departure.

It is more convenient and comfortable to book the so-called “limousine” luxury 8-seat D’car (converted from a 16-seat van), which has only a few pick-up points before departure.

For hotels located in small alleys or on the walking street area on the weekend (from Friday evening to Sunday evening), all cars, vans and buses are not allowed to enter. Passengers can be picked up or dropped off in the places nearest to their hotels.
